We are all on a spectrum of growth. Some have figured it out earlier in life and some like me, are just now learning what it really means to be financially responsible.
As I’ve learned more over the years how personal finances need managed, I loathe my lack of education as a young person. Whether due to culture, context or my own doing – it has cost me years, and likely hundreds of thousands of dollars in the long run. I wish I had the internet at my finger tips…. but I worked at a library – so really no excuse. I just wasn’t interested! I was out playing in the woods, on a bike and trying to get lost. Nope, the idea of trying to figure out a check book or balance my bank account as a 17 year old was the last thing on my mind.
I see all the folks on YouTube and IG and other media being all financially savvy – and I shake my head. How did they know to dedicate so much focus to it? How do you tell young people how important money is when you’re young? How your older self will thank you for taking those risks when you have nothing to lose?
I am both embarrassed and proud of my journey. As I share more of it on this blog, I hope it helps others out there who have either traveled a similiar path or perhaps, who I can help prevent from taking the long road I have.
Does anyone out there know what I’m talking about?
